Over the past 16 years, Laura Cantrell has been a familiar presence on the U.K. music scene. The Nashville-born, New York-based artist has developed a loyal audience through consistent touring, and numerous radio interviews and sessions for BBC Radio 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 Music, most notably with Bob Harris and the late John Peel, who famously championed her debut album, Not The Tremblin’ Kind, and described it as, “My favourite album of the last ten years and possibly my life”

Her new release, Laura Cantrell At The BBC compiles the best of her UK radio performances from 2000-2005, including several previously unreleased songs, and traces the arc of Cantrell’s rise as an Americana artist on the airwaves of the venerable British Broadcasting Corporation.

NASHVILLE-based
singer-songwriter Steve Forbert returns to Scotland for a double-header visit to Glasgow and Edinburgh.

The Grammy nominee with a mesmerising live show studded with song gems will play St Andrews in the Square, the scene of two previous sell-out shows, on September 23.

And two nights later, reflecting his drawing power and demand for top-drawer singer/songwriting, he will appear on September 25 at The Pleasance Theatre.

His current album, A Safe Past Tense is a collection of studio demos from his 2012 release, Over With You and also includes live tracks from a March 2014 show.

“He’s a crowd pleaser and a great artiste so it’s a real bonus to be able to welcome him back, not just for one show, but two,” said Kevin Morris of The Fallen Angels Club.

MATT McGinn, a magical live performer and a lynch-pin of the Irish music scene, will play the Admiral Bar in Waterloo Street, Glasgow on November 17 this year.

Current album, Latter Day Sinner proves right those who rate him as a leading Irish singer songwriter – and it has been gathering rave reviews.

Matt has also enjoyed much success touring worldwide, performing with everyone from Nanci Griffith to Kim Richey.

The gloriously inimitable Dan Stuart is returning to Glasgow, scene of two memorable gigs by the Mexico-based, former Green On Red frontman in recent years.

With new album, Marlowe’s Revenge set for early 2016 release, Dan’s gig at Stereo on Thursday, February 25 will offer a close up of his latest material, buoyed by a superb back catalogue delivered with fervour and commitment.

His forays into the musical spotlight always make an impact with his edgy mix of humour and passion and intensely great songs.

One of the best live bands on the scene, award-winning trio, Hot Club of Cowtown are heading back to Glasgow for the first time in three years for an April 2016 show at St Andrews in the Square.

Winners of the Western Swing Group of the Year 2015 Award at the 2015 Ameripolitan Music Awards the globetrotting band continues to develop and its sound, winning new fans along the way.

With Elana James (fiddle and vocals), Whit Smith (guitar and vocals) plus Jake Erwin (upright bass and vocals), the band perform a blistering mix of blues, jazz, folk, American fiddle tunes and pop standards with improvisation never more than the next beat away.

The band, a big hit at Glasgow Americana in 2008, have toured with Dylan, Willie Nelson and The Mavericks and established themselves as favourites on both sides of the Atlantic with admirers such as Bob Harris and Jools Holland.

“These are brilliant musicians who can play any kind of music and thrill an audience,” said Kevin Morris, of the Fallen Angels Club.

GRAMMY Award 2016 nominee, Hayes Carll is lined up to play the CCA in Glasgow in April.

The Texan singer/songwriter has received a Best Country Song nomination for Chances Are, a stand-out track on the current Lee Ann Womack album, The Way I’m Livin’.

Chances Are has also been nominated for Best Country Solo Performance, though that award goes to the performer rather than the songwriter.

Hayes, who’s working on a new album, is rightly “blown away” by the nomination and grateful to Lee Ann for recording the song.

“Hayes’ show are never a let down as his songs are both amusing and heart-rending while his chat can be hilarious,” said Kevin Morris of the Fallen Angels Club.

The wonderful Richmond Fontaine are heading to Glasgow in April 2016 a month after their 10th album, You Can’t Go Back if There’s Nothing To Back To” is released.

They will play the Art School on Wednesday, April 27 – and it will be the first time since 2012 that this hugely talented, highly literate and widely acclaimed bunch of musicians will have hit the road as a whole band as other projects have been undertaken in that time.

And the word is that once again, Willy Vlautin and his mates have produced a wealth of beautifully executed story songs on the new album, the likes of which are rarely matched in today’s musical landscape.

Their songs are raw, thoughtful and played with inspiration and devotion, as anyone who has listened to any of their previous albums or seen them live will testify.

The hugely talented, Dar Williams – rated by many as one of the best singer/songwriters of the past 20 years – pays a visit to Glasgow in May for a gig on the 19th at The Classic Grand.

Her thoughtful songs, many based on personal experiences, have brought the Westchester County, New York artiste a lot of praise and a sizable fan base.

Richmond Fontaine will say farewell to Scotland with a show at The Caves in Edinburgh on October 18.

As they have clearly been one of the best alt.country acts over the past 20 years, this is bound to be a somewhat bittersweet event for their appreciative fans, currently enthralled by their final release, You Can’t Go Back If There’s Nothing To Go Back To.

Nashvile based singer-songwriter, Steve Forbert, returns to Glasgow in November this year for the first-ever Fallen Angels Club gig at St Luke’s.

The Grammy nominee has a loyal following in Glasgow – he played a sell-out show four years back at Glasgow Americana – and is very much a hardcore troubadour who never short changes his audience.

Last year’s album release, his 16th studio effort, Compromised was the latest in his vibrant and attention-grabbing catalogue.

Live, Forbert can be compelling with his distinctive voice, an acoustic guitar and a trusty harmonica slung around his neck.

Steve Forbert is a top-ranking American singer/songwriter without a doubt.

Chuck Prophet returns to Glasgow with the Mission Express in support of his thirteenth album which is scheduled for release early next year on Yep Roc.

Every year Chuck’s ups the quality stakes on his albums from the amazing ‘Let Freedom Ring’,  to ‘Temple Beautiful’  and his last  album ‘Night Surfer’ they have all seen Chuck at the top of his game.

The Handsome Family will unravel their bewitching, dark humour and great songs once again on a return visit to Glasgow early in 2017.

Great favourites in the city, the devilish duo of Rennie and Brett Spark appear at Saint Luke’s on Thursday, February 23.

Their distinct music is steeped in the western gothic of New Mexico life and latest release, “Unseen”, includes typically offbeat songs about Blackjack players, spirit seeking vacuum tubes and impossibly small horses.

Nashville-based Irishman, Ben Glover will be back in Glasgow for a show at The Admiral on Wednesday, March 22, 2017.

His latest album, The Emigrant, is confirming his status as a formidable singer/songwriter with whom the likes of Gretchen Peters and Mary Gauthier are keen to collaborate.

He’s toured with Vince Gill, Buddy Miller and Jim Lauderdale and, on his most recent visit to the city, he went down a storm at the Glasgow Americana Festival at a special show that also featured Roddy Hart and Boo Hewerdine.

His earlier release, “Atlantic” got a five-star review from Maverick Magazine while The Telegraph declared it to be among the best 25 albums of 2014.

Born in North London. Boo is described as ‘one of Britain’s most consistently accomplished songwriters’. Since disbanding his much loved English rock band The Bible in 1994, Hewerdine has recorded and released ten acclaimed albums and spent over twenty years performing live, writing, teaching and producing.

His published catalogue of songs stretches well beyond one thousand songs at the time of writing, including hits for Eddi Reader, K.D Lang and collaborations with Kris Drever, Brooks Williams and Duke Special. His new album Swimming In Mercury is released by Reveal Records March 31 2017, preceded by the national radio single campaign and video “Satellite TV”.
