Chances Are has also been nominated for Best Country Solo Performance, though that award goes to the performer rather than the songwriter.

Hayes, who’s working on a new album, is rightly “blown away” by the nomination and grateful to Lee Ann for recording the song.

“Hayes’ show are never a let down as his songs are both amusing and heart-rending while his chat can be hilarious,” said Kevin Morris of the Fallen Angels Club.

“…. simple songs that are simply grand. With a nod to Hank Williams and a wink to Woody Guthrie, Carll’s good-time music also takes a sombre look at current uncertainties.” – Paste Magazine

They will play the Art School on Wednesday, April 27 – and it will be the first time since 2012 that this hugely talented, highly literate and widely acclaimed bunch of musicians will have hit the road as a whole band as other projects have been undertaken in that time.

And the word is that once again, Willy Vlautin and his mates have produced a wealth of beautifully executed story songs on the new album, the likes of which are rarely matched in today’s musical landscape.

Their songs are raw, thoughtful and played with inspiration and devotion, as anyone who has listened to any of their previous albums or seen them live will testify.

A major draw in the land of Americana and beyond, we are delighted they can come to Glasgow again.

Written in a year book-ended by the birth of her first child and time spent looking after her terminally-ill father, The Penny Collector is a collection of heartbreaking yet joyous songs.

Based in Austin, Texas, comparisons with Iris De Ment or Patty Griffin are commonplace, and those catching her live shows rarely leave unimpressed by the quality and sincerity of her compositions and singing.

As a featured vocalist with the Sam Baker Trio or a duo performer with her equally talented husband, Danny Schmidt (support for the tour) Carrie Elkin brings intimacy, style and smiles to her gigs.

She is compelling in every sense and on previous visits to the city she has proved an act worth seeing.

“I’m thinking Patty Griffin, Nanci Griffith and Iris De
Ment….spell-binding”  – Bob Harris, BBC Radio2
