Posted: November 15, 2022 in News

Just a reminder that our show with Frazey Ford will now take place on Monday 13th March 2023 in Saint Lukes.

Frazey Ford is a Canadian singer-songwriter and actress. She was a founding member of The Be Good Tanyas.

On her third album U kin B the Sun, Vancouver-based singer/songwriter Frazey Ford inhabits an entire world of shapeshifting rhythm, elevating every beat and groove with the subtle magnetism of her mesmerizing voice. Sarah Borges- 24th November-The Glad Cafe

Posted: November 9, 2022 in News

The wonderful Boston based singer, Sarah Borges is coming to Glasgow to play The Glad Cafe.

One way or another, Sarah Borges connects with casual mastery. Whether it’s with the comrades she’s collaborated with over nearly 20 sparkling years of music-making, or the vivid portraits of people’s lives – and occasionally her own – she’s sketched in scores of emotionally resonant songs.

But most of all, Borges has built a loyal following by connecting, through her own charismatic, down-to-earth spirit, with her audience – whether they’re longtime fans from back when she broke through with her terrific “Silver City” debut in 2004, or newcomers just now joining the party.

We can’t remember Sarah ever playing in Glasgow, so delighted to have her play for us.

We are thrilled and grateful to be working in association with Scotland on Tour to bring you two very talented Scottish singer song writers to a live stage.

Kim Edgar and Rhona MacFarlane will take the stage to share the bill in Cottiers Theatre on Thursday 18th August 2022.

Emotion and connection are at the heart of this Edinburgh-based pianist and Songwriter’s work: through observed and lived experiences, Kim Edgar ponders what it is to be human, creating stories told with honesty and empathy that open hearts, minds and discussions. Her intensity and intimacy in performance have also attracted glowing reviews:

“Heart stopping…our very own Tori Amos” (Sunday Herald)

Intense and thought provoking” (The List)“very moving, literate, allusive and expressively sung” * * * * * (Scotland On Sunday)

Rhona Macfarlane is a singer-songwriter from Scotland whose reflective, vulnerable story telling casts a spell over her audiences. Her songs are personal, honest, and intimate and recall a range of influences including Joni Mitchell, The Blue Nile, Nick Drake, John Martyn and Adrianne Lenker.

A graduate in classical violin from The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland she is a versatile musician performing with guitar or piano, often introducing new sounds with the addition of string arrangements.

“Macfarlane’s peaceful instrumentation, is elevated through her serene string arrangements which blends with her beautiful vocals to build an atmosphere of tranquillity and respite.” Folk Radio UK

“those wonderful strings, that sends shivers down the spine.” At the Barrier

Ben Caplan-CCA- 17th August

Posted: August 2, 2022 in News

After his sell out show in The Glad Cafe last November, we look forward to welcome Ben Caplan back to Glasgow. Ben plays The CCA on Wednesday 17th August 2022 with special guest the wonderful Terra Spencer.

Ben Caplan is both the roar of the hurricane and the eye of the storm. He has an uncanny ability to channel both wild abandon and quiet introspection. His songwriting pulls from many diverse influences but both his music and his lyrics regularly draw from his Jewish heritage.

Often mixing biblical imagery and klezmer inflected melodies, Caplan re-appropriates ancient sounds and themes with a decidedly contemporary twist. Ben released his first studio album in 2011, and has spent the last ten years recording music and performing to ever growing audiences in music clubs and theatres around the world.

Robert Vincent- Glasgow Return

Posted: March 22, 2022 in News

Robert Vincent is one of the most acclaimed new voices on the Americana music scene.

We look forward to his return, where he will play The CCA on Thursday 30th June 2022.

Born in Crosby Liverpool, his upbringing inculcated him with a very Merseyside culture of storytelling and language.

A key influence would be the American country records that his father would play around the house such as Waylon Jennings and Emmylou Harris.
