Dan Baird, Warner E. Hodges and Joe Blanton, collectively known as The Bluefields, released their much anticipated debut album Pure on May 15.
Comprised of rock veterans, Joe Blanton on lead vocals and guitar, Warner E. Hodges on lead guitar and vocals, Dan Baird on bass, guitars and vocals, and special guest, Steve Gorman, on drums, the self produced album is as the title suggests, pure rock.
With band members backgrounds boasting platinum record success, a Grammy nomination, An Americana Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award and song authorships that have become iconic rock standards, the album permeates with songs confirming this pedigree. The Bluefields debut delivers all the rootsy richness you would expect from these trailblazers from the south, while never losing sight of rock’s raunchier side. The songs travel seamlessly between the bone-jarring riffs of What You Won’t Do, the haunting atmospheres of Don’t Let Me Fall, the soulful pain of Belong and the sheer “three chords and a cloud of dust” pleasure of Bad Old Days.
