The witty, irreverent, thought-provoking Kinky Friedman is heading back to Glasgow for his first show in five years.

The “Kinkster,” hailed as the Frank Zappa of country music, is more than a singer/songwriter: he’s a novelist, humourist and newspaper columnist and he’s run to be Texas Governor.

He’s toured with Bob Dylan, formed various bands and performed solo – and in 1999 friends such as Willie Nelson, Tom Waits, Lyle Lovett and others covered Friedman’s music on the tribute album Pearls in the Snow: The Songs of Kinky Friedman.

As Kinky gleefully points out, there have been two tribute albums of his music and “he ain’t dead yet”.

It’s safe to say his style of take-no-prisoners humour peddled now for many a year probably has won him more admirers than enemies at his gigs that usually sell out.
